Klei Entertainment’s newest game, Invisible, Inc., sends players through a series of randomly generated, turn-based tactical missions. It's not a clean exit, but it's effective, and I’m riding high from the thrill of escaping the hunt. The noise alerts two more guards to my presence, but I have enough time to use an EMP bomb on the automated turret in front of the elevator and escape.

A safe full of credits sits to my left, but I know my window to extract it is closing fast. Seconds later, an alarm goes off and the automated surveillance system sends a security detail to check on the situation. So, if you really only want this game, then the current deal at the Humble Store is definitely better.I can hear the guard in the other room wake up as I extract a hard drive’s worth of corporate lies from a secure databank. The historical low price is 3,51 € (from the Humble Store, in fact, until May 23). It is still a good game and there aren’t many others with a similar topic (if any… nothing comes to my mind, at least). And even in such a simulation, I am really bad with it as I am always too impatient, selling or buying too fast instead of waiting for the perfect opportunity. My mind likes numbers, but when it comes to short selling stocks (and even doing so with stocks that exceed the actual number of existing stocks…) my mind just refuses to work. I just also happen to dislike the stock market. For those of us who just can’t get enough of speculating with stocks.Īltogether, I actually really do like the game. However, the game also has an “endless mode”. A look at the achievements of the game shows that there is an end to it (the achievement “The Invisible Hand” is earned by finishing the game on any difficulty). There’s always a “rival” for you and you need to be better than them to stay at the company. There doesn’t seem to be a big background story, but you do progress every day (in career mode). And you can manipulate the markets via lobbyists. Of course, you get access to such insider knowledge as well. You need to prove yourself by being successful as the company fires people quickly even for small reasons – or if they are caught doing illegal trading because of insider knowledge. But I looked up what short selling means exactly, for example (I did read about it with the Gamestop short squeeze, but hadn’t paid too much attention to the details behind it). Just as with Windjammers 2, I spent some time researching – not the controls this time! These are very easy in The Invisible Hand. The vast majority of game time will be spent looking at your four monitors to read news, insider tips, watch the stocks go up and down…

The game has short sequences in a first person view setting but these are really very short – walking to the coffee machine and back to your screens, for example. I guess it’ll be the same now… however, nobody from our little Blaugust Discord group volunteered to write about the game and I decided to give it another go. My verdict back then was that it seems to be a good game, but the topic wasn’t for me. You are expected to do well or you’re getting fired. You get hired by a shady company (or maybe it’s just a regular one…) as a stockbroker. However, this just happens to be the topic of this simulation game. I actually really dislike the stock market and all the speculations around it.
